Dungeon Kit Exercise

This week we had to create a Dungeon kit to practice lay out and learn a few tools that can help us with our building. This actually helped and I learnt new things as well in Maya that I didn't know before. I learnt the usefulness about 'snapping' by holding down 'x' you can move your object more accurately and for the layout to be more neater.
I first started off by creating the walls and floor. This was very easy and simple , so I added skirting board to add a bit of detail so it didn't look overall plain.

Then the next task is to make the pillars, I found this very fun as you can be as creative as you want. I did try different ways in making the pillar but I thought the one I ended up with looked the best and fit the dungeon theme well. I did this buy creating a cube (Hold space go to 'create' then 'Polygon Primitives' and click cube). Then used 'Insert Edge Loop' to create multiple edges to change the shape of the cube. With this I also used Ctrl + E to extrude the faces of the cube to bring it more shape to the cube.

End result to my Pillars:

Then I started on the door by inserting a Cylinder by the same technique I did for the cube. I made the Cylinder flat and just had the half of the circle on the top to create the curve on the door.

I then extended the edges of the outer shape to create the outer shape of the door to then extrude it and place it in a wall.

Final result of the door:

I then wanted to try making a dungeon window that was shown in class quickly. I did the technique that was demonstrated in class by using the 'Insert Edge Loop' tool many of times and then messing around with the edges to get the shape of the window. From this I extruded the faces of the window to give it more dimension and then removing the parts of the window I didn't need. I made a jail cell type of window with bars to look like a dungeon window.

Final result of window:

Then finally was to bring it all together to create the final result:

I enjoyed this excise and will use these techniques in my building.
